2024/25 Argentina Soybean Harvest in Initial Stages

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Showers in Argentina were fairly widespread last week with the heaviest amounts in western Buenos Aires, La Pampa, and Cordoba. The 6-15 day forecast looks cooler and dryer with the possibility of localized light frost in west-central Buenos Aires.

The soybean harvest is just getting underway in Argentina with approximately 37% of the soybeans maturing. Harvesting of the early planted soybeans should get underway within days. Approximately 80% of the double crop soybeans are flowering and setting pods.

Farmers in Argentina have been slow sellers of their anticipated 2024/25 soybean crop. Government data indicates that farmers have sold between 17% to 18% of their soybeans, which is the slowest pace in ten years. The sales are a quarter below where they were last year. Farmers are only selling enough to pay expenses, and they are waiting to see what will happen with the currency exchange rate.

Soybeans were rated 25% poor/very poor, 43% fair, and 32% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage is down 1% compared to the prior week. Last week was the first weekly decline after five weeks of improvement. Soil moisture for the soybeans is 15% short/very short and 85% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is up 3% compared to the prior week. Below is the soybean condition rating in Argentina for March 26, 2025 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
